About
Nightwave — radio from the dark side of music
Nightwave is a free, ad-free and tracking-free web radio for alternative music and the dark side of music. It plays live radio stations from all over the world, sorted into 14 curated genre families — from doom and black metal through post-punk and darkwave to trip-hop, phonk and dark ambient. No pop, no charts.
- What is Nightwave?
- Nightwave is a free web radio app for alternative music and the dark side of music. It plays thousands of live radio stations from around the world, sorted into curated genres such as doom, metal, post-punk, darkwave, trip-hop, phonk and ambient.
- Is Nightwave free? Are there ads?
- Nightwave is free and has no ads of its own. You don’t need an account to listen. The stations themselves may run their own on-air announcements.
- Does Nightwave track me?
- No. There are no cookies, no ad trackers and no fingerprinting. Nightwave only keeps anonymous counters (how many people listen right now, how often a feature is used) without any personal ID or IP address. Page views are counted with cookieless Vercel Web Analytics.
- Where do the stations come from?
- From Radio Browser (radio-browser.info), an open, community-maintained directory of about 50,000 radio stations. Nightwave sorts them into genres by their tags and hides streams that keep failing.
- How does “Near you” know where I am?
- From the approximate country and city of your internet connection, which the hosting provider passes along with each request. Nightwave never asks for your GPS location and doesn’t store it.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Saved stations and songs stay on your device. An optional login by email link (no password) syncs them between devices; the account holds only your email address and your lists, and you can delete it at any time.
- Can I install Nightwave as an app?
- Yes. Nightwave is a progressive web app (PWA): add it to your home screen on iPhone or Android, or install it from the browser on desktop. It opens offline with your saved stations.
